Fighting Continues Near Uvira

Recent hopes for peace in Uvira have been dashed as fighting has resumed south of the city. Although there were reports that M23 forces would withdraw, the planned transition depended on a neutral force taking control, which did not happen. As a result, renewed conflict has left many civilians caught in the middle of the ongoing violence.

Food Shortages Worsen

The conflict has severely disrupted access to essential supplies. M23 forces have closed all routes into Uvira, cutting off major food deliveries that normally arrive by road from Bujumbura and by boat from Tanzania. Food supplies are becoming increasingly scarce, prices have nearly doubled, and reports of severe hunger are emerging in communities around the city.

Grace Children Remain Safe

The children of Grace Orphanage, including David and his family, are currently staying in a safe house near the Burundi border. While they remain safe, schools have been closed indefinitely, leaving children with limited daily activities. Despite these challenges, the children have been helping prepare food packages for displaced families who have lost access to basic necessities.

Supporting Displaced Families

Thanks to the generosity of donors, Grace Orphanage has expanded its food assistance program and is now providing weekly food supplies to 110 displaced families. However, ongoing security concerns have forced the temporary suspension of the Saturday feeding program that normally serves more than 600 children.
