At Grace Orphanage, every step forward represents a new opportunity for children to build a brighter future. Despite ongoing challenges in eastern Congo, the orphanage continues to expand its impact through education, community support, and long-term development initiatives.

Strengthening Education in Uvira

Grace Orphanage has partnered with NY School in Uvira, located less than a 10-minute walk from the orphanage. Although the school is still under construction, the first two floors are already being used as classrooms and currently serve approximately 200 students, including children from the orphanage.

This partnership reflects the organization’s philosophy: “To Partner, To Improve, Everyone Wins.” Future plans for the school include the addition of a library, computer lab, and science lab to help provide a high-quality education for local students.

Supporting More Children in the Community

For the new school year, Grace Orphanage has extended its reach by supporting 50 additional orphaned children living with host families. Many of these children are being cared for by grandparents or relatives and would not be able to attend school without assistance.

To help ensure their success, the organization is hiring another home teacher who will provide after-school tutoring, homework support, and mentorship.

Building a Playground for Young Learners

While the new school continues to take shape, the grounds remain largely undeveloped. A future playground is planned to provide younger children with a safe and enjoyable space to play, learn, and socialize.

Life Continues Amid Ongoing Conflict

It has now been eight months since the children were relocated to a safe house near the Burundi border due to regional instability. Although a hoped-for peace agreement has yet to be finalized, the children continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience.

They spend their days studying, helping with feeding programs, completing household chores, and creating their own games and activities with friends.

Supporting Families Displaced by War

Beyond caring for orphaned children, Grace Orphanage continues to respond to humanitarian needs in the region. Staff and children recently helped distribute essential food supplies to 50 displaced families sheltering in a church in Uvira.

This outreach was made possible through the generosity of donors who continue to support emergency relief efforts.

Celebrating Educational Success

The long-term impact of education is becoming increasingly visible. Two young men from the orphanage, Kiza and Diye, recently graduated from Don Bosco Trade School as electricians and are now seeking employment opportunities.

In addition, six students are currently attending university and pursuing degrees in fields including Medicine, Engineering, Community Health, Communication, and Customs and Excise.

Their achievements are a powerful reminder of what is possible when vulnerable children are given access to education, support, and hope.
