Welcome To Our New Home - The Orphanage

In 2017, we purchased two acres of land just outside the city of Uvira in eastern DRC. Since then, we have completed the full design and construction of our permanent facility, which now provides a safe and stable home for nearly 60 orphans. Built in carefully planned phases, the centre is staffed by dedicated caregivers and supported by volunteers and local workers.

On the surrounding land, we grow some of our own food and have even sold surplus produce to support the home’s self-sufficiency. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we have invested over $400,000 into creating a space where children can heal, learn, and thrive.

Our facility includes:

  • Two acres of secure land purchased in 2017
  • A ten foot security wall and guardhouse to protect the children
  • Four houses, including three for the children and one for administration and a library
  • A 3,800 square foot learning centre that also serves as an event space and dining area
  • A large community kitchen that prepares meals for up to 200 people
  • A deep fresh water well and 10,000 liter water storage tower

This home is more than just buildings. It is a symbol of hope, resilience, and community.

Grace Orphanage Project

We are a sanctuary of care and hope for orphaned and vulnerable children in Uvira, Democratic Republic of Congo. Founded on Christian values and local leadership, the orphanage provides shelter, education, spiritual guidance, and emotional support in a safe, family-style environment. With a focus on love, dignity, and long-term development, Grace Orphanage empowers each child to heal, grow, and reach their God-given potential. Their work stands as a testament to the strength of community and faith in transforming young lives.

Reading Centre Project

IWOF’s Reading Centre in Uvira, DRC is more than just a library — it’s a beacon of opportunity for children and youth. Stocked with books in French, English, and Swahili, the centre supports literacy, learning, and academic tutoring in a safe and welcoming space. It also serves as a hub for after-school programs, leadership development, and community workshops. By promoting education and curiosity, the Reading Centre helps empower the next generation with the tools they need to thrive.

Education Support Project

At IWOF, we believe education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Through generous donor support, we provide school fees, uniforms, supplies, and tutoring for children who would otherwise be unable to attend school. From primary education to university-level scholarships, our programs are designed to equip vulnerable youth, especially orphans and girls, with the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities to build a brighter future.
