The Democratic Republic of Congo is a country rich in natural resources and resilience, yet burdened by decades of conflict, poverty, and social challenges. Access to education is limited, especially for orphans and vulnerable children. Many schools lack basic supplies, trained teachers, or infrastructure. In rural areas, children must walk miles to reach the nearest classroom.

Girls, in particular, face additional barriers. Cultural norms, early marriage, and gender inequality mean that many never get the chance to learn to read or write. That’s why at IWOF, we focus not only on children’s education but also on women’s literacy through our Reading Centre.

Women’s Reading Centre

We also know that education doesn’t stop with children. That’s why we created the Reading Centre, a safe and welcoming space for women of all ages to learn basic literacy and numeracy skills. Many of these women never had the opportunity to attend school themselves. By supporting them now, we empower mothers, grandmothers, and community leaders to participate more fully in the lives of their children and villages.

When a woman learns to read, the whole community benefits. She can help with homework, understand medical instructions, and contribute to family income. Your support of child education also uplifts entire families.
